President’s Letter | February 2020

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

For those of us of the Christian tradition we have now entered the season of Lent in the approach to Easter. A time for reflection and contemplation, a time to search for a clear pattern and plan running through our lives. A time to walk with God.

We live in a shrinking world. Within minutes of it happening social media, the press, TV and radio bring graphic details of disasters from all around the world. We are instantly able to share the horrors, the highs and lows of what is happening with those who are suffering. This is clearly illustrated by the constant updates we receive about the spread of the corona virus and we can only hope and pray that it will soon end.

Al Isra-Wa-Miraj (22 March) – the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet of Islam

On the 27th day of the month of Rajab (this year 22 March), Muslims remember the Night Journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from the mosque al Haram in Mecca to the mosque al Aqsa in Jerusalem. This journey is a miracle from God.

The journey was the first part of a night full of surprises and wonders which culminated in the ascension of the Prophet through the heavens that led him in the presence of God.

” Glorified be He Who carried His servant by night from the Inviolable Place of Worship [al Haran mosque] to the Far distant place of worship [al Aqsa mosque] the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, that We might show him of Our tokens! Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer.” (Quran 17.1)

Tu B’Shvat: Cultivating Hope

Occurring on Shvat 15th, Tu B”Shvat in Hebrew or New Years of theTrees is both the day of the dime collection and the day of the transition to the next cycle for the dawning fruit. Above all, it is a celebration of nature and hope renewal. As nature is the work of the Almighty, mankind shall not only cultivate it but also protect and respect it.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

2019 is gone, welcome 2020!

On our airports, the New Year is usually the time for figures showing the growth in numbers of passengers, economy of the reduction of carbon emissions, noise, etc. If you are like me you expect those numbers and like to show you’re proud of “your” airport. Pride can be a positive thing on the matter a way of expressing your interest and support to managers and staff of the airport.

The Bushfire Catastrophe in Australia

For many weeks and, in fact months now, devastaing fires have raged across the east coast of Australia destroying people’s homes and livelihoods, burning millions of hectares of bush, farmland and towns, taking lives and killing our wild life and farm animals. Most of these fires have startrd as a result of lightning strikes but sadly some of these fires have been deliberately lit.
